ASTRID - Sail plan

The Astrid is a brig. A sailing ship is called brig if it carries two masts that are completely crosswise rigged.
For a good sail balance head sails, stagsail and the brig sail are also led of course.

The strength of the extravagantly rigged brig lies in the big sail surface with which at last a high speed can be reached. According to good seamanship the sailors have to enter the masts daily to furl, unfurl or pack the sails.
